Benefits of Triple Glazing
Why Upgrade Your Dorset Home?
- Significant Energy Savings: Triple glazing delivers superior thermal efficiency compared to standard double glazing, achieving ultra-low U-values. This design locks in heat, helping to lower your heating bills and keep your home comfortable, whether you are on the exposed Jurassic Coast or nestled in the countryside.
- Superior Noise Reduction: Enjoy a peaceful sanctuary by reducing external noise by up to 40dB with acoustic glass. This is ideal for blocking out the sounds of busy summer tourist traffic on the A31 and A35, or noise from Bournemouth Airport, ensuring a quiet living environment year-round.
- Enhanced Security: With a third pane of toughened glass and robust internal beading, our units act as a formidable deterrent against intruders. This extra layer of defence provides peace of mind that your home and family are well-protected.
- Condensation Control: Advanced insulation minimizes the “cold spot” effect on the internal pane, virtually eliminating condensation. This is particularly important in Dorset’s humid coastal climate, protecting your decor and reducing the risk of damp or mould on window sills.
- Weather Resistance: Our triple-glazed units are engineered to withstand the elements. They are designed to keep your home draught-free and watertight, even when facing driving rain and strong gales off the English Channel.
- Increased Property Value: Upgrading your home’s EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating is a smart investment. High-performance windows make your property more attractive to future buyers in Dorset’s highly desirable property market.
Keep your Dorset home Cooler and Warmer
u-Values - Thermal Performance
Not all triple glazing is the same. For maximum efficiency, the gap between the panes is just as important as the glass itself.
The Gold Standard: 44mm Units
Our premium option uses a massive 44mm sealed unit. This allows for two optimum 16mm cavities filled with Argon gas. This specification fits perfectly into our Sheerline Prestige, Residence 9, and Residence 7 systems, delivering centre-pane U-values as low as 0.5 W/m²K.
The Slimline Option: 28mm Units
Some window profiles cannot accept a 44mm unit. For these, we offer a 28mm triple glazed unit using Krypton gas. Krypton performs better in smaller gaps than Argon, allowing us to achieve excellent thermal performance (U-value 0.60) even in a slimmer profile. Beware this comes with a hefty price tag.

Improved security over double glazed windows, due to the extra pane of toughened glass. Internally glazed windows offer added security and prevents the removal of the glass from the outside.
Sound Insulation
There is no major gain having triple glazing with three equal thicknesses of glass. The best solution would be with a thicker centre pane, please enquire for further information.
Heat Insulation
44mm sealed units filled with two 16mm cavities of argon gas. Argon gas is heavier than air, so acts as an insulator
Prevent Cold-Bridging
Warm edge spacer bars made from a composite material to stop the cold-bridge across the unit.
Low-emissivity Glass
Two coatings of low-emissivity glass (Low E). This is a microscopically thin coating that stops the heat from your house going outside.
Plenty of Options
Available in the Sheerline Prestige, Residence 9 and Residence 7 systems as a 44mm unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is triple glazing suitable for coastal properties in Dorset?
Yes, it is an excellent choice. Properties in coastal towns like Poole, Bournemouth, and Weymouth are often exposed to strong winds, salt air, and driving rain. Our triple-glazed units are designed to withstand these harsh conditions, providing superior weather sealing to prevent draughts. The robust construction also ensures long-lasting performance against the corrosive coastal environment.
Can I install triple glazing in a Conservation Area?
Yes, but you need to choose the right style. Dorset has many Conservation Areas and listed buildings, particularly in historic towns like Dorchester, Sherborne, and Blandford Forum. We offer “heritage” triple glazing options, such as flush sash windows and realistic timber-effect finishes. These allow you to upgrade your home’s energy efficiency while preserving its traditional character and satisfying planning requirements.
Will triple glazing help with noise from summer tourist traffic?
Absolutely. Many Dorset residents find noise levels increase significantly during the holiday season, especially near the A31, A35, and coastal routes. Our triple glazing can be fitted with acoustic laminated glass, which disrupts sound waves and reduces external noise by up to 40dB. This ensures your home remains a quiet, peaceful sanctuary, even when the roads are busy.
How effectively does triple glazing stop condensation?
It is the most effective solution available. In Dorset’s humid maritime climate, condensation can be a frequent issue. Triple glazing works by insulating the internal pane of glass with two gas-filled cavities, keeping it warm and preventing moisture from settling. This eliminates the “cold spot” on your windows, protecting your sills and interior decor from damp and mould.
Do I need planning permission to replace windows in Dorset?
For the majority of homes in Dorset, window replacement is considered “Permitted Development” and does not require planning permission. However, restrictions apply if you live in a Conservation Area, a Listed Building, or an area with an Article 4 direction. We recommend checking with your local council (e.g., Dorset Council or BCP Council), and our team is happy to assist with advice on compliance.
