Supply of Popular Privacy Pattern Ends, Prompting Homeowners to Seek Alternatives

News Alert: Flemish Glass Discontinued
- Status: Pilkington has ceased production of the Flemish™ pattern.
- Availability: Stock is extremely limited. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
- Replacements: Single pane replacements will likely mismatch. Full re-glazing may be required.
- Alternatives: We recommend Pilkington Minster™ or Chantilly™ as the closest aesthetic matches.
KJM Group has received official notification that Pilkington Flemish™—one of the industry’s most popular patterned glass options for privacy and decorative panels—is being withdrawn from the Texture by Pilkington™ product range.
The classic Flemish pattern, now discontinued.
Pilkington UK has confirmed it will no longer manufacture the Flemish design at its St Helens facility. While short-term stock may remain available across the UK, it will not be replenished once sold out.
Impact on Homeowners
Understanding what this means for your existing windows and future projects:
The withdrawal is part of Pilkington’s ongoing process of managing its decorative glass range. Flemish, which was classified as a Privacy Level 1 design (low obscuration), has been a popular choice for decades, especially in period and traditional homes, but manufacturing priorities have shifted.
If you currently have Pilkington Flemish glass in your home and need to replace a broken or misted unit:
- Act Quickly: You have a very small window of opportunity to purchase remaining stock.
- Expect Mismatch: If stock runs out, achieving an exact match for a single unit will become virtually impossible. You may need to replace all glass panes in a specific window or door set to maintain a uniform look.
Recommended Alternatives
For homeowners seeking a new installation or a replacement that provides a similar aesthetic and privacy level, KJM Group recommends focusing on the remaining, readily available patterns within the Pilkington Texture Glass range.
Best Alternatives to Flemish
| Category | Pilkington Pattern | Privacy Level | Why we recommend it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Closest Alternative | Pilkington Minster™ | Level 2 (Low Obscuration) | Features a popular, gentle, classic pattern that offers a very similar traditional look to Flemish. |
| Similar Privacy | Pilkington Chantilly™ | Level 2 (Low Obscuration) | A fine-line floral pattern that provides low privacy while maximising natural light transmission. |
| Traditional Texture | Pilkington Cotswold™ | Level 5 (High Obscuration) | A well-established pattern. Note: This offers much higher privacy (Level 5) than Flemish. |
