Glass Technology Has Evolved
Choosing the right glass for your home will have a huge impact on the performance of your windows. KJM has launched the new Planitherm range from Saint-Gobain to simplify this choice.
Whether you need to reduce overheating in a conservatory, block street noise in a bedroom, or simply lower your heating bills, there is now a specific glass engineered for the job.
The 5 Key Performance Categories
This initiative from Saint-Gobain splits glass performance into five clear categories. Depending on your needs, our units deliver:
- Energy Efficiency: Maximising heat retention (‘A’ Ratings).
- Enhanced Security: Resistant to forced entry.
- Noise Reduction: Dampening traffic and external sound.
- Furniture Fade Protection: Blocking harmful UV rays.
- Reducing Overheating: Reflecting solar heat in summer.

Select Your Glass Package
To make life simple, these technologies are bundled into three distinct tiers. Which one is right for your project?
1. Planitherm Energy Standard
The Baseline for Modern Living.
This specification utilises PLANITHERM TOTAL+ low-emissivity glass, Argon gas-filled cavities, and warm-edge spacer bars. It is the standard required to achieve an Energy ‘A’ rated window.
Perfect for: General window replacement where heat retention is the priority.
2. Planitherm Comfort
Silence, Security & Protection.
The “Comfort” spec takes the Energy Standard and upgrades the external pane to 6.8mm STADIP SILENCE laminate glass. This hidden layer offers three major upgrades:
- Security: The glass holds together if shattered, making entry incredibly difficult.
- Noise: Significantly reduces external noise (approx 20% better than standard).
- UV Protection: Blocks 99% of UV rays to stop furniture and curtains fading.
Perfect for: Bedrooms, street-facing windows, and security-conscious homeowners.
3. Planitherm Comfort Plus
The Ultimate Climate Control.
This includes all the security and noise benefits of the ‘Comfort’ package, but swaps the inner Low-E pane for PLANITHERM ONE T. This advanced coating offers the optimum Centre-Pane U-value of 1.0 W/m²K.
Crucially, it acts as a Solar Shield, reducing solar gain to prevent rooms from overheating in summer, while trapping maximum warmth in winter.
Perfect for: South-facing rooms, large patio doors, and conservatories.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If you choose the Planitherm Comfort or Comfort Plus options, the laminated layer blocks approximately 99% of UV radiation. This significantly slows down the bleaching effect of the sun on sofas, curtains, and carpets compared to standard glass.
Both offer security and noise reduction via the laminated outer pane. The difference is the inner coating. Comfort Plus uses a special ‘One T’ coating that provides superior thermal insulation (U-value 1.0) AND solar control to stop the room overheating. Standard ‘Comfort’ is focused primarily on noise and security.
Planitherm glass is very neutral. Unlike older coatings that had a heavy grey or bronze tint, modern Planitherm coatings are virtually clear, ensuring your home stays bright and natural looking.
Yes, provided your existing frames are in good condition and can accommodate a 28mm unit (which most uPVC frames can), we can often replace just the glass units to upgrade your home to Planitherm standards without ripping out the frames.
